Are Orgain Protein Bars Healthy? (The Best Orgain Protein Bars)
If you’ve been to Target or any local retailer, then you’ve definitely seen Orgain products here and there on the shelf.
If you’re like me and have ever wondered if any of these orgain products were worth buying then you’ve definitely come to the right article!
Although Orgain claims to be a health focused company, are their protein bars really as healthy as they market them to be?
Orgain Protein Bars are very healthy as they contain whole sources of organic ingredients such as organic brown rice protein and organic pea protein which are both great sources of vegan proteins. They are very transparent with their ingredients which makes their products trustworthy and reliable.
Although these protein bars are healthy, how do they hold up in taste and texture?
Well, we tried them out and ranked them from best to worst!
So, let’s get into which protein bar is worth buying from their website!
What Makes Orgain Protein Bars Healthy?
When we look at products that are meant to be healthy, we want to look at the nutrition facts where we can find the macronutrients and the ingredient list.
The first thing we want to look at is a good balance of macronutrients rather than being skewed towards fats and carbs.
This happens many times in lots of products that we find on the market and can be labeled “healthy” while still making us gain weight and pack on the pounds.
There are two key things that you need to look at when looking at the nutrition label.
The first is a good ratio of macronutrients.
This means that we must see how much protein there is relative to the carbs and fats.
Many products you can find on the market contain a lot more carbs and fats than that of protein while being called a “protein bar.”
For example, let’s take a look at Nature Valley’s Protein Bar. (nutrition facts are on the website).
We can see that there are 12 grams of fat, 15 grams of carbs (7 of which are from sugars), and 10 grams of protein.
Out of all the macronutrients, carbs are the most prevalent with 15 grams while the majority of the calories come from fats since they are the highest calorie macronutrient.
Out of the 208 (190 is from the -6 net carbs) Calories provided in the bar, we can see that 19.2% is from protein while remainder goes to carbs (28.8%) and fats (52%).
We can see that the majority of the bar contains calories from fats so calling this a protein bar is misleading.
Calling this a fat and carb bar with some protein in it would be a better term for what this really is.
When looking for a protein bar, you want just that: protein.
If there are 10 grams of protein per bar, make sure the carbs and fats aren’t too high compared to that!
Orgain Protein Bars have 5 grams of fats relative to 10 grams of protein. This is a much better option to have than Nature Valley.
You can find protein bars with up to 20 grams of protein in them but today we are focusing on vegan protein bars that don't use lactose based products so 10-15 grams should suffice.
The second thing that you want to look at when understanding nutrition labels is the ingredient list.
Companies are required to put the most prominent ingredient as the first ingredient in the list which means this is the heaviest in weight out of all the other ingredients.
For example, if Roasted Peanuts are the first ingredient, then they are the heaviest in weight and are most likely what the majority of the product is made out of.
If Soy Protein Isolate is the second ingredient in the list, this is the second heaviest in weight out of all the products.
So, if we look at this protein bar once again, we can see that the majority of the bar is made from Roasted Peanuts & Soy Protein Isolate.
While neither of these products are bad, the product is marketed as a protein bar while peanuts (mostly fats) are the primary ingredient while Soy Protein Isolate is second.
A good protein bar should have its protein source as the primary ingredient, not a cheaper filler product.
Orgain Protein bars are very healthy as they are very open about the ingredients they use and, when something is marketed as high protein with organic ingredients, they hold to their promise.
Now that we know what to look for in the nutrition label, let’s take a look at Orgain’s Products and see how they hold up!
5th Place: Organic Protein Bar - S’mores
As we mentioned earlier, we love Orgain products as they are very transparent with their ingredients and where they are sourced from.
They’re not afraid to show their nutrition facts and ingredients lists like many of the companies you see around the market.
With that being said we think that all of these are really tasty products and they are packed with whole, organic ingredients that really can’t be beat!
In 5th place we have to give it to the S’mores. Don’t get me wrong here, the S’mores was actually really good, it just doesn’t hold a candle to the other flavors that you’ll see here on the list.
It’s packed with chocolate flavors and is not overbearingly sweet like many of the bars you’ll see on the shelf.
The only thing that we didn’t like about this bar was its texture. You’ll find the other bars on this list to be creamy and chewy all at the same time.
Although it has a great flavor and comes reasonably priced, S’mores was definitely the last on the list.
Let’s take a look at the nutrition facts to see the health benefits!
For 1 serving of Orgain S’mores Organic Protein Bar we can see that there are 6 grams of fat, 20 grams of carbs, and 10 grams of protein. Pretty good for a vegan protein bar with great ingredients!
If you’re a big fan of S’mores then you’re definitely gonna love this one!

4th Place: Organic Protein Bar - Chocolate Brownie
This one was really hard to put onto fourth place because it tastes so great, but it has to be here as the other three products are just that much better.
If you love chocolate flavored things then this is definitely the product for you.
Lots of chocolate protein bars out there are really terrible with their texture and are overly sweet.
This is the perfect bar for when you’re having a sweet tooth but don’t want to hurt your teeth with an excess amount of sugar!
What’s great about this bar is its texture. It’s perfectly chewy without any stale or thick edges and it’s perfect to eat when you’re on the go.
It really does feel like a brownie!
I find that chocolate is a flavor that can go terribly wrong when it comes to protein bars but, I have to say, Orgain does a really good job when it comes to protein bars!
They also do a great job with their protein powders, click here to check out our blog on their chocolate protein powders!
Now that we’ve reviewed the taste and texture, let’s take a look at the nutrition facts and see if it's good to eat while staying healthy!
For one serving of Orgain’s Organic Protein Bar - Chocolate Brownie, there are 150 Calories with 5 grams of fat, 19 grams of carbs, and 10 grams of protein.
This is great to eat when dieting and just staying healthy overall.
The thing about vegan products is that it’s hard to meet your protein goals.
With Orgain’s products, you really get the best of both worlds as you can easily pack on the protein without any animal products.
I’m a huge Chocolate Brownie fan and this bar really does a great job at holding up with the competition.
It’s pretty crazy to me that there is no lactose or dairy in here as the bars are really creamy and delicious.
The reason it’s on the Number 4 spot is not because it’s mediocre, it’s because the other three products are just that amazing.
3rd Place: Organic Protein Bar - Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
I’ve eaten a lot of Cookie Dough protein bars in my life since you can never really go wrong with cookie dough products.
This, however, was the first Vegan protein bar product that I’ve had that is comparable to the top rated bars.
In terms of flavor, it really has that solid chocolate chip cookie dough taste and is great for being a vegan protein product.
The texture is really what’s great here and makes the bar very enjoyable. It’s chewy and slightly fudgy so, if that sounds great to you, then this is the product to get.
This honestly would be the first place product but the peanut butter bars really can’t be beat here. If you’re not a fan of peanut butter, then you should consider this to be the number 1 slot.
Let’s take a look at the nutrition facts and see what we can find.
Just like the other bars, the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough bar contains 5 grams of fats, 20 grams of carbs, and 10 grams of protein with a total of 140 kcals.
It’s really a great balance of macronutrients considering this is a Vegan protein bar with all vegan products.
I’m a big fan of the transparency you can get from Orgain’s product label. They even have a button that says “view nutrition label” whereas other brands really make you dig deep for them.
The ingredient list is similar as well as we can see that most of the products that are heaviest in weight are organic and great sources of protein.

2nd Place: Organic Protein Bar - Peanut Butter
If you’re a fan of peanut butter products, then this is definitely the one for you. Orgain definitely has one of the best vegan protein bars out in the market and this is the flavor that really shines.
It’s creamy and delicious with an awesome texture that really can’t be rivaled.
This definitely takes the number 2 spot because it’s both nutritious and packs a punch in terms of flavor.
What’s also great about this product is how satiating it is.
I feel nice and full after eating one of these and it’s great to eat before an intense workout.
Let’s take a look at the nutrition facts since this one is a little different prior to the others.
Although a little higher in calories, we can see that there are 7 grams of fat, 17 grams of carbs, and 10 grams of protein. Since there is the addition of peanut butter, we can see that there are more calories but that doesn’t necessarily make this a bad product.
We can see in the ingredient list that organic peanut butter is used in the product.
Peanut butter contains lots of healthy fats that are essential for us so we can depend on Orgain to, once again, provide us with awesome, whole ingredients.
Also, if we look under carbs, we can see that there are only 2 grams of added sugars (which is sugars that are added unnaturally) which is actually lower than the other products on this list.
Overall, this product is great and we can see that most of the ingredients used are organic.
If you’re a fan of peanut butter, then this is definitely the product for you!

1st Place: Organic Protein Bar - Peanut Butter Chocolate Chunk
After trying all of these products, we finally have a winner ladies and gentlemen! Peanut Butter Chocolate Chunk is a match made in a heaven that Orgain really nailed in terms of flavor, texture, and nutrition.
Remember what I said about the cookie dough in 3rd place? Well, what would make that better? Well, obviously some peanut butter!
Peanut Butter Chocolate Chunk is literally what it sounds like and it works perfectly together.
The texture is chewy and the chocolate chips really come out strong in this protein bar.
You get the best of both worlds if you’re a fan of both chocolate chips and peanut butter. The best part is, all of the ingredients they use are organic!
Let’s take a look at the nutrition label and see what we can find.
For every 6 grams of fat, there are 18 grams of carbs, and 10 grams of protein. Once again, this is pretty good for a vegan protein bar and there’s nothing really to complain about here!
This bar has a gram less fat than the pure peanut butter bar and its flavor is arguably just better!
When it comes to the ingredient list, everything is organic and you can see that there are some awesome whole ingredients just like the others on this list.

Conclusion
Overall, these are all really good products, it just really depends on what you prefer in terms of flavor and texture.
Orgain products are delightfully chewy so if you’re a fan of fudgy bars, then these are really the products for you!
Once again, the reason I stand behind Orgain products is definitely because of their transparency and how easy it is to access their nutrition labels.
When looking at products online for things that are healthy, make sure to check their macronutrient ratios along with the ingredient list.
Companies cannot lie here and, when there’s nothing to hide, many companies will be very open about what their product contains.
Orgain has certified organic labels on their products and their ingredient lists are packed with organic ingredients.
Their flavors are spot on and I’m sure you’ll enjoy these products.
Make sure to check out their other products if you’re looking for vegan and organic products that aren’t stuffed with filler products.
